In addition to general school equipment, all pupils will find it essential to have a scientific calculator which can be purchased from the Maths Department, a 30 cm ruler, a pair of compasses, and a protractor.  The use of computers as an aid to the learning processes in mathematics is positively encouraged.

The course is in two parts:

Key Stage 3

Pupils are set in broad bands in Year 7 during the first half-term and this setting is refined in Year 8 and Year 9.  Pupils will use the Key Maths course in Years 7, 8 and 9, and this fully implements the National Curriculum.  Students are assessed in line with National Curriculum levels on a termly basis.  Students should make approximately 2 levels of progress between Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3.

Key Stage 4

We follow the Edexcel Linear Mathematics Syllabus leading to accreditation at GCSE level.  A variety of resources will be used during the course including the specific course textbook produced by Edexcel.
